• Blue kyanite rim is diagnostic of ruby in fuchsite and can be used to avoid misidentification as ruby in zoisite. Rubies are the red variety of the mineral corundum. Rough ruby crystals form in hexagonal prisms and plates. Ruby in Fuchsite is a recently discovered stone that combines the properties of Ruby and Fuchsite. Chemical Composition of Fuchsite: K(Al,Cr)2(Si3AlO10)(OH)2; Chemical Composition of Ruby: Al2O3;
• The chromium present in ruby causes a natural red fluorescence which is stimulated by both visible and invisible (ultraviolet) light. However, when a ruby contains a significant amount of iron in addition to the chromium, the fluorescence is reduced. Rubies naturally fluoresce stronger to long wave UV than short wave. Stones with the strongest fluorescence are often a pinkish red color in daylight.
• Fuchsite is a variety of Muscovite, which is a form of Mica. Ruby crystals are sometimes found within the Fuchsite. When this occurs, it is known as Ruby Fuchsite. In this case, the healing properties will be a combination of both Ruby and Fuchsite gemstones.
